Students transformed our school into a cultural showcase, teaching peers and teachers the meanings and traditions of Dia De Los Muertos.
On November 6th 2025, HSTAT’s La Alianza Latina (The Latinx Alliance) club came together to host an expo to embrace a significant cultural event in the Mexican community. The club held this event to educate students and teachers alike about the significance that the Day of the Dead (Dia de Los Muertos) holds in the Latino community. This event was student-led, with the students setting up stations and educating the various audiences about the traditions of the Day of the Dead. Each station taught different parts of the celebration’s history via numerous interactive activities and presentations.
One interactive station had students making paper flowers with the name of a deceased loved one, and placing them on a board where each participant’s flower was displayed together.
Across the auditorium, presentations filled with colorful papel picado, marigold decorations and sugar skulls immersed students and teachers in a vibrant celebration of life, memory, and culture.
Many attendees, students and staff members alike, were engaged with the variety of presentations and felt intimately connected with how loved ones were honored.

Ms. Guzman, La Alianza Latina advisor, mentioned that their motive for organizing this event was that the students in the club wanted to showcase their culture and history when it comes to death. They mentioned that death is something everyone has in common and we all mourn, grieve and celebrate differently.
This event was La Alianza Latina’s first school-wide event, and they plan on continuing to share things about their culture in the future.
