As Trump re-enters the white house for the second time, he enters with his mind full of new educational policies that might change the United State public schools forever.
Trump has said that schools are wasting their time “teaching wokeness¨, and that he wants to abolish the Department of Education because he believes under their leadership, students are not being taught the “right way.” He believes there are other things to be taught to students; things that are more sufficient and relevant. He wants to keep transgender athletes out of female sports, forbid lessons about gender identity and structural racism being taught, and abolish diversity and inclusion offices.
His education plan also promises to cut funding for schools that go against him on multiple issues. He has repeatedly said to wanting to defund ¨any schools that push critical race theory, transgender insanity, and other inappropriate racial, sexual or political content on our children.”
Critical race theory in schools teaches about the racism that has been embedded in our government since the beginning of our country’s independence. It teaches students how racism affects people and their everyday lives and how to avoid discriminating against people, even unintentionally.
According to the 2014 review: An Ethnic Studies Pedagogy: Implications for K-12 Schools from the Research, “Ethnic studies recovers and reconstructs the counter narratives, perspectives, epistemologies, and cultures of those who have been historically neglected and denied citizenship or full participation within
Trump believes that more financial and digital literacy in schools is more important than having critical race theory. He has pledged to withhold funds from schools that accept transgender students or teach critical race theory.
He has shared his new ideas in his campaign about the funding in schools. These new policies include seeing a decrease in funding to schools K-12 and losing the right to teach about inclusivity.
The President elect has proposed cutting 4 billion dollars in Pell Grants reserved funds and re-directing half the money to Nasa for space. Pell Grants reserved funds are a program that helps low income students pay for their education offering up to 7 thousands dollars per year for their tuition and other expenses, which is usually a lot of help to college students.
President-elect Donald Trump had announced that Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy will lead a new “Department of Government Efficiency” in his second administration. Although that has now changed, it is still important to consider that Musk has said in the past that college is unnecessary. He has gone on to say that 4 years of studying hard and being in debt is a waste because he believes that everything is available in the world that can teach you for free.
Although Trump isn’t in office yet, these promises will affect many people and families in America. What do you think of the Trump’s new upcoming policies?
