“We’re going to Disney!” said every Super Bowl winner ever.
Growing up almost every kid wants to go to Disney, so we understand the appeal for that to be the class of 2024’s Senior Trip.
Let’s learn a little about the trip, how the students will make it possible, and why their has been pushback from some students.
The Facts
68 students will have to sell 14 boxes of candy along with paying $420.
Last spring, the then juniors held a vote for what their senior trip would be, and Disney won handedly.
“The students wanted to do it and I wanted to support their dreams” says new senior advisor Mrs. Plumb.
How will students make this possible?
This is not the first time we will be sending seniors to Disney. In 2018, a class of seniors went in June after spending most of the year selling candy. Mrs. Plumb wants to cut that process in half, so it does not feel as onerous on students. This is what influenced the decision to implement a November 20th deadline.
Understanding both sides
When asked, some seniors said it was too much to sell. Seniors Chancely Octave, Jared Joseph and Janah Ebid thought that the trip was expensive and the destination was too far to be justified.
With a trip like Disney, the reality is money needs to be raised. Also, when holding a vote amongst 350 students, disagreement is to be expected.
Other seniors in Aseel Ahmed, Evans Rivera and Isabella Figueroa, who all will be attending the trip in February, agree that it is expensive but ultimately worth it.
They expressed that they have no problem selling boxes, but Evans understands the mixed feelings as he thinks it might be “too little of time” to sell the candy.
One student, Carline Almonte said they wished they had a trip somewhere locally, due to things like strict parents and low budgets.
With their deadline to sell candy, November 20th, approaching, expect to see students putting on their best sales pitches to turn their dreams into reality.
