On Friday, our boys soccer team had an intense match for first place against Leon M. Goldstein.
Going in to the game, Telecommunication’s stood at a perfect 4-0, outscoring opponents 18-4.
In their September 14th matchup, Telecom won 1-0 due to stellar play from goalie Santiago Garcia.
With the stakes so high this past Friday, the game kicked off in our favor. We showed great offensive abilities with little room for the opponents to counter, but Goldstein had an amazing defense.
Goldstein stopped numerous attempts at a goal from our strikers and were able to match us until it was their turn.We let up a penalty early, but goalie Garcia made an amazing save to keep us in the game. Goldstein later scored a goal in the 15th minute.
Following their goal, Daniel Bautista scored a great goal bringing the boys back in the game 1-1 right before half time.
The second half was not so kind to the boys, as Goldstein scored on 2 penalty kicks.
Coach Rubin cited the second half as “sloppy”, but is not too worried about the long term outlook of the team
Next up for the boys is a matchup today against Petrides High School at 4 pm. With only 3 games left in the season and the division being at a deadlock, every point matters as they are in a race for first with Goldstein.
