On November 15th, the Class of 2025 came together to celebrate the coronation of their college application process. Students dressed up formally and expressed their excitement for applying to college with each other.
Around the first floor you could feel the flood of emotions as exhilaration and joy took over.
The student’s answers to a simple question of “how does this make you feel” revealed an exceptional appreciation for the chance to follow their dreams as well as an understanding of global inequalities in educational access. The students expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to choose their own careers, acknowledging that not everyone in the world has the same access to education.
“I feel great honestly. I’m applying to colleges and I’m a first generation student so it’s a big accomplishment. It means a lot to me because a lot of kids around the world don’t have education, so for me to be able to get the education I want and choose which career I want is something I am really grateful for. I really want to get accepted into Stony Brook or my Macaulay honors top choice.” says Ayda Eltouky. “It really means a lot to me and my family.” she goes on to say.
“Today we are applying to colleges. Some of us already have but this is the last chance for our CUNY applications. I already applied so I’m just trying to help other people who might need it. The process could be complicated. You have to attach all your documents like your personal information and your essay.” says Valerie Granados.
“Today is application day in celebration of the hard work of our seniors. They have been researching and applying to colleges for the past three months and they have also been researching and building up to this day since freshman year. So they have submitted their CUNY applications today and finalized their lists for common app schools. Common apps are SUNY schools or private schools and we are making sure everything is correct so we could and just wait until they hear back from their acceptances in the spring.” said Ms. Gibson, US history Teacher and College Office Administrator.
For many, the transition to college represents not just an academic challenge, but journey fulfilled with excitement and uncertainty. Even though every student’s journey ahead is unique, they all feel a sense of adrenaline as they prepare to leave the comforts of home for the adventure that lies ahead.
